The St. Patrick's Day parade abounds in pagentry weaved with religious intent, Bacchic beer and festive cheer but our audience must have been asking much like Puck, "What hempen homespuns have we swaggering here” happening upon "the hard handed men that work in [Claremorris] performing as the "mechanicals" from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream as part of the St. Patrick's Day parade.

The Claremorris Men's Shed performance of the story of Pyramus and Thisby played by our very own "bully Bottom", John Fallon; chairman of The Men's Shed and Thisby his young love played by Jason, a founding member of the men's group (http://www.claremorrismg.ie/) was indeed "very tragical mirth".

For those unfamiliar with Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream or The Men's Group you'll have the chance to see them perform Shakespeare in the [McMahon] Park this summer as part of The Non Prophet Festival: a Claremorris Community Arts Festival.

Pending funding from our friends on the Arts Council we're also planning to stage some midsummer musical madness on the Saturday the 21st of June in the town square to raise awareness and funds for our festival but mostly to celebrate the summer solstice: The summer solstice has the longest period of daylight and is celebrated worldwide among all cultures in some way, with holidays, festivals, and rituals around that time with themes of religion or fertility.

There are folkloric magical associations with weaving and this festival will be nothing short of a homespun high speed fibre-optic tapestry and dreamlike vision of what a tight knit and creative community like Claremorris can achieve with a little help from our friends: We're hoping to have the support not only the well established members of our community and chamber of commerce but the new generation of international residents and enterprises setting up here to benefit from the fastest fibre town in the west with broadband speeds supplied by Enet (http://www.e-net.ie/) and Airspeed (http://airspeed.ie/), with whom we'll be hopefully streaming this event live to friends and family living abroad.

From the 24th of March onwards we’ll be regularly meeting at The Dalton Inn, Claremorris on Monday nights at 8pm to begin creation and prouction process so if you would like to be a part of the festivities please contact The Non Prophet Organisation at This email address is being protected from spambots.
